Wiggo, Cav and more cycling heroes will compete against eachother through the streets of Hawick tomorrow.
Sir Bradley Wiggins, the London 2012 Olympics gold medallist and 2012 Tour de France winner, and the 2011 Tour de France Green Jersey winner Mark Cavendish, will race through Borders towns on the ‘Grand Depart’ of this year’s Tour of Britain, starting at Glentress, Peebles around 10.30am.
Many of the world’s top professional cyclists, covered live and with highlights on ITV4 and Eurosport, are then expected to enter Innerleithen at 10.39am, Walkerburn at 10.43am, Selkirk 11.10am, Hawick 11.37am, and between 12.25pm and 12.51pm in Newcastleton, before crossing into Dumfries and Galloway for the finish at Drumlanrig Castle.
Arriving in Hawick on the A7 from Selkirk, the cyclists’ route continues along Mart Street, then follows the B6399 down Bourtree Place, the High Street, Slitrig Crescent, Liddesdale Road, and on to Newcastleton.
Rolling road closures and parking restrictions will be in place.
Race director Mick Bennett said: “We are very pleased to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins alongside what looks like a very strong Sky line-up.”
