Teviotdale topple Allander in cup

Teviotdale’s four-rink side took the spoils with a six-shot victory in Saturday’s 21-end Knock-out Cup match at Allander, of Lanarkshire.

In an unusual contest, two of the leisure centre squads won convincingly, however, the other two did well to keep withi touch of their opponents.

With six ends completed, Teviotdale led by 28 shots to 18, after which the Teries’ advantage was cut to only six shots (51-45) following the same amount of heads again. By the finish of the 18th end, the tally was 71-66 for the Hawick men, and over the concluding part of this contest, they outscored their opponents by 10 shots to 9 to earn the victory by 81-75.

Top quartet for Teviotdale comprised John Darling, Charlie Patterson, David Reid and Alan Brady (skip).

The players will contest 16 ends of bowls before lunch and dominoes at the West Stewart Place clubrooms.

Teviotdale’s senior gents slipped to a 69 shots to 49 defeat in their Scottish Cup first round tie against Abbeyview, of Dunfermline, at Dalkeith.

The Hawick outfit triumphed in three of the four rinks, with one squad struggling to catch the pace of the carpet.
