Teries miss out on Border Matchplay Championship

HAWICK’S golfers missed out on glory in the 2012 Border Matchplay Championship.

Out of the eight players from the town who qualified for the event at The Roxburghe, only four made it into the second session after Graeme Tinlin, Ross Williams, Keith Beattie and Paul Desport were all knocked out following the play last Saturday morning.

Former champion Derek Gillie edged out Alan Ballantyne in the afternoon and Paul Johnson was beaten 3&2 by eventual winner Calum McNeil.

While friendship was forgotten for four hours as Jamie Tinlin took on Adam Ballantye for a place in Sunday morning’s semi-final.

Tinlin emerged victorious on the 17th but he couldn’t find a way past McNeil on the Sunday and lost out 3&2.
