BUCCLEUCH: Last Tuesday saw the seniors edging an exciting and closely-fought league clash at Wilton by 55 shots to 51. Best for the visitors were G. Godfrey, K. Lyle and T. Edmison (skip) 15-8.

Also last Tuesday, F. Spalding beat C. Stitt and M. Martin defeated M. Pearson to book their places in the ladies’ championship final.

The men slumped to a disappointing 74¾ shots to 65 defeat at Peebles in their second last game of the season last Wednesday. Best for the Teries, whose hopes of maintaining third spot in the league were dashed, were D. Neil, T. Little, E. Collie and B. Gray (skip).

Sunday’s ladies’ pairs tournament was won by H. Chamberlain and M. Martin who beat A. Devine and M. Pearson in the final.

HAWICK: The seniors recorded their fourth consecutive win with a fine victory on a tricky Peebles green last Tuesday. Tops for the visitors were W. Killey, W Balikie and J. Reilly (skip). Details: B. Last Wednesday night saw the ‘A’ team notch a comfortable 96 shots to 64 victory at home to Earlston. Best rink for the homesters comprised S. Spalding, S. Johnstone, G. Brady and B. Anderson (skip). Also last Wednesday, a depleted ‘B’ team went down by 82 shots to 44 in a rearranged league match at Kelso. Details: W. Blaikie 9 C. Brown 15; F. Willison 11 J. Utterson 26; J. Reilly 14 G. PLayfair 20; T. Anderson 10 J. Coleman 23.

WILTON: Last Wednesday, the ‘A’ team were at Waverley for a 17-end David Lightbody (Jedburgh)-supported Border League match, and due to the annual holidays and the Commonwealth Games the team was changed due to unavailability. After seven ends, only three shots separated the sides with the hosts 36-33 ahead. Waverley then pushed on and extended their advantage to 75-59 after 14 heads, before surging further in front to seal a 91 shots to 64 victory. Top squad for the visitors comprised Alistair Taylor, Graham Brownlee, David Reid and Alan Brady (skip). Details: D. Miller Jnr 19 A. J. Kyle 7; B. Blackwood 17 R. Taylor 15; C. Elliot 16 C. On Saturday, the Buccleuch, Hawick and Wilton clubs staged the Area Four regional play-offs, with the single-hand and triples at Buccleuch, the junior single-hand and pairs at Hawick, and the rinks at Wilton.

In the single-hand, Wilton’s Chris Macdougall qualified, while the triples was won by Hawick’s Ian Ford, Mick Hogg and Euan McGregor (skip). The junior single-hand saw Michael Smyth, Wilton, take the spoils.

The pairs contest between Hawick’s Les and Scott Clarkson (skip) and Wilton’s John Smyth and Alan Brady (skip) was postponed due to the heavy rain, but play was completed on Tuesday night with Smyth and Brady winning by 16 shots to 14.

The rinks at Wilton were also called off due to the wet weather and have been rearranged for Tuesday at West Stewart Place.

The ‘A’ team were at home to Ancrum, and it was the villagers who started positively and were ahead by 42 shots to 15 after seven of the 17 ends. The West Stewart Place side fought back and narrowed the deficit to 15 shots (60-75) after 14 heads.The closing stages saw Wilton add 16 shots to their opponents’ seven but it was not enough to clinch a win and Ancrum emerged
