Double British Supersport winner Stuart Easton admits there is pressure on him to perform in his first season back in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, writes Alexander McLeman.
The Hawick-based bike star, who has rejoined the Paul Bird Motorsports Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team, told the Hawick News earlier this week: “I’m pleased to be back in the British Superbikes, it is a big bike class and where most riders want to be in the UK.
“I really enjoyed riding 600cc Supersport bikes last year and could have ran the number one bike plate this year but I wanted to move up to Superbikes.
“Before I was injured in 2011 I had raced six times at this level and was only six points off the championship lead, so I know I am capable of winning in this bike class and I have been working hard to get back to where I want to be.
“There will be some pressure to perform, coming off such a good Supersport season but the main thing is to keep it simple and if you are fast and consistent then the rest will sort itself out.”
Alluding to his return to the Paul Bird team, Easton explained: “There was interest from other teams in British Supersport and Superbikes but Paul Bird Motorsport was the best option for me. I know the team well, so there was never a doubt I would take this chance to ride with them again.
“The Paul Bird Motorsport team history speaks for itself, they won the title with Steve Hislop and Shane Byrne and know what they are doing when it comes to winning.”
The opening round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship takes place at Brans Hatch on April 18-21.
