Saturday evening’s meeting at Hawick Moor saw the Moostroopers committee having to abandoned proceedings after only two races due to the ground becoming slippy and unsafe following heavy showers .
The first race saw only two runners in the six furlong contest and Just A Joker made amends for his defeat at Selkirk with an easy win from Woodhall Tarakan.
The Mosspaul Handicap, run over a mile with a first prize of £600, saw a very competitive field of six go to with all of the runners having won this season.
Eastmill Diamond, who was second in the Tradesmen’s, came in for plenty of support as did Celtic Star who eventually started favourite.
From the flag a strong pace was set by Eastmill Diamond, Celtic Star and Full of Magic and as the field entered the final bend Full Of Magic was being challenged on the outside by Celtic Star in the hands of Andrew Fairley with Acannacanoe back in third.
But unfortunately Celtic Star slipped and fell bringing down Onefortheroad and leaving Full of Magic in front who went on to win from Eastmill Diamond and Acannacanoe back in third.
Although both horses got up and ran on after the fall sadly Celtic Star, after being treated by the on-course vet, had to be put down.
Jockey Andrew Fairley, after treatment on the track, was taking to hospital with a shoulder injury .
After the race jockeys, owners and the committee agreed to abandon the remainder of the meeting.
The next meeting will take place at The Castleholm, Langholm on Sunday, June 30.
