Julie goes down in British Championships final

Teviotdale’s Julie Forrest was beaten in the final of the ladies’ singles at the British Championships at Stanley, near Durham, last week.

She beat Welsh champion Kerry Packwood 20-10 in the semi-finals, and came up against world champion Rebecca Field in the final. Forrest was winning 15-7 when she lost the jack, and didn’t score again when Field, also the current Engligh champion, shortened the jack to the minimum distance. The green was flying, running between 20 and 23 seconds, and the game took two-and-a-half hours, with both players receiving a standing ovation when they finished after some wonderful bowling.
