Harriers brave the elements at Jubilee Races

Have your say

Saturday saw Teviotdale Harriers hold their annual Jubilee Club Race.

Held on Hawick Moor in atrocious weather, conditions were very wet, cold and windy to say the least.

It proved a real baptism of fire for first-time runners Jack Mitchell, Robin Lowthian, Liam Bouglas, Macy Cropper, Natasha Aitken and Richard Allott.

Having endured heavy rain during their warm-up the juniors lined up wet and cold but undeterred to take part in their race. First off were the u13 girls and boys and the winners were: Boys – 1, Sam Allott 14.38; 2, Fraser Clyne 14.55; 3, Liam Bouglas 15.08. Girls - 1, Lucy Ash 15.50; 2, Sophie Allott 16.03; 3, Carly Blaikie 16.05.

Newcomer Macy Cropper lost a trainer in the mud but she retrieved it and carried on regardless showing true spirit and determination.

Next off were the u15 boys/girls/senior women. Victory in the female race went to Ishbel Inglis in 21.58; 2, Pam Paxton 22.44; 3, Donna Inglis 23.17. First male Joseph Tottman in 21.19; 2, Jamie Waugh 21.32.

The last race of the day saw senior men line up for their extremely punishing course as the weather deteriorated once again.

Coming on to the finishing straight newcomer Richard Allott was the front runner with Alan Inglis a close second. They both surged for the line with Richard coming out the victor in 36.12; 2, Alan 36.15; and 3, Barry Spence 36.28. All times contain handicaps and full results can be found on www.teviotdaleharriers.org.uk.

The club would like to thank ????? Funeral Directors for their sponsorship of the medals for this race.
