Hawick Golf Club are through to their third successive Border League final after easing past Cardrona in the semi-finals at Kelso last weekend.

Hawick, who won the Border League last year, defeated Cardrona by eight points to one after two sessions of play on Saturday.

The Teries led 3-0 after the morning foursomes, with David Martin and Jamie Tinlin, Graeme Tinlin and Alan Ballantyne and Paul Johnson and Greg Easton all delivering maximum points from their pairings.

Only needing two points from the six singles matches in the
afternoon session, Hawick looked set to make their third successive final appearance.

Easton, making his first start for the Hawick team, put up a very impressive fight against Cardrona’s number one player and fought back from being four down through ten holes to all square after 17, only to fall just short at the last hole.

However, wins from Ballantyne, Johnson, Martin, Graeme Tinlin and cousin Jamie secured Hawick’s final spot.

The local team will now face Torwoodlee in a rematch of last year’s final at the beginning of October after they defeated Langholm in the other semi-final.
