Hawick Golf Club are well represented in this year’s Border League Championship finals as both its ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams are set to tee off in tomorrow’s semi-finals at Kelso, with the mouth- watering prospect of an all-Hawick final up for grabs.
The Teries’ ‘A’ outfit, who are chasing their third championship in a row, are up against stiff opposition in Peebles in the first of the semi-finals, while the Vertish Hill club’s ‘B’ team take on Torwoodlee, runners-up the past two years.
Hawick’s ‘A’ team captain Paul Johnson told the Hawick News this week: “I would love to see an all-Hawick final and I believe it would be a brilliant match.
“But as always we take one tie at a time and Peebles will be tough to beat.”
Michael Patterson, who skippers the ‘B’ side, said: “It would be an amazing achievement for the club if both our teams got to the final.
“We’re all great friends but I think that would be put to one side for a day.”
Hawick’s ‘A’ side are chasing their eighth Border League title, and Johnson believes a mixture of youth and experience in his side counts for a lot, feeling that’s been the key to Hawick’s success in recent years.
Tomorrow’s semis will see two sessions of play –foursomes pairings in the morning and singles in the afternoon.
