MINTO: Club captain Ron Elliot led a successful men’s outing to Eyemouth on Saturday, when Minto players enjoyed day-long sunshine, some good golf and a fine meal in the clubhouse. Grant Morrison won the competition trophy, kindly donated by Tommy Mulvee, with 39 stableford points; 2, Jim Hood 38; 3, Gary McDonagh 35. On their return, the group brought an enjoyable day out to a close at the Fox and Hounds in Denholm.
A trio of players made a successful foray over the border for the recent Goswick senior ladies’ open, in which Minto’s Gill Cartwright and Flora Kerr, and Fiona Walton, formerly of Minto but now Selkirk, narrowly won the team competition with an outstanding score of 91 stableford points. Playing conditions were very windy but the local ladies held their nerve and won by a single point. Congratulations to all three of them.

Fraser Mortimer and David Richardson played superb golf in the regional finals of the Belhaven Best Club Handicap Championship at Baberton Golf Club last Friday to progress to the national finals at St Andrews on September 20. Sixty-seven pairs contested the regional final and Fraser and David are one of ten pairs to qualify in this prestigious event.
