Hawick bowls ace Julie Forrest battled bravely before losing out in the final of the ladies’ indoor singles world cup in Australia, yesterday (Thursday).

Forrest, who plays for the Teviotdale club, was beaten 11-4 12-5 by Malaysia’s Siti Zalina Admad, and the Teri was magnanimous in defeat.

“Siti played brilliantly and I doubt I would have beaten her even playing at my best,” she said.

In Wednesday’s semi-finals, Forrest went head to head for the second time at the world cup with New Zealand’s Jo Edwards, and took revenge for a reverse in her first game of the tournament against the Kiwi champion with a 3-10 8-7 5-0 triumph.

Forrest added: “I’m absolutely chuffed to bits and to have reached a major final with the strength of this field is a real achievement.”

On her way to the last four, Forrest turned in some great performances to beat opponents from the Isle of Man, Japan, South Africa, Spain, the Philippines, Norfolk Island and Canada.
