Over 130 primary six and Seven children from nine schools in Hawick and the surrounding area took part in the Borders Sport and Leisure Interschool’s Athletics championship recently.
The event featured 24 different track and field competitions including 60 metre and 150 metre sprints, one and two lap races, relay, triple jump, high jump, shotput and javelin.
Paul Scott, Borders Sport and Leisure Hawick Primary Active Schools co-ordinator, who organised the event said: “The Interschools athletics went really well.
“I’d like to give a special mention to Denhlom and Hobkirk combined school team who retained the overall schools 1919 cup for the second year in a row.
“I’d also like to thank Eddie Brogan Tree Services, Storey Brothers Horse Haylage and Graeme Hodgins Joinery for kindly donating trophies for the championship.”
The main results from the day were – Girls overall relay A+B winners: Wilton Primary/Denholm and Hobkirk (joint winners); Boys overall relay A + B winners: Drumlanrig Primary; Girls overall individual events winners: Denholm and Hobkirk; Boys Overall events winners: Trinity Primary. Overall 1919 Cup Winners 2013: 1, Denholm and Hobirk Primaries (combined team); 2, Trinity Primary; 3, Wilton Primary.
