Hawick and Wilton pulled off a superb victory in Sunday’s Border League game against St Boswells at Buccleuch Park.
The young Teries made a confident start with the bat as openers Euan Hair and Ronan Alexander built a solid platform of 71 for the first wicket, with Hair dominating the scoring with some hard-hit boundaries before being caught by Steven Laidlaw off the bowling of Thomas Goodman.
Two more quick wickets fell as Goodman claimed another, after which Kathryn White picked up her first wicket of the match. Hawick skipper Pierce Solley and Euan Hair then got the innings back on track before the latter was caught off the bowling of White for an excellent 63. White and Goodman each recorded another wicket to spark a fightback from the visitors.
However, Evan Alexander provided some resistance for Hawick, and Solley raced to his first half-century of the season with an unbeaten 73 which included eight boundaries. Stuart Hair helped guide Hawick to an excellent score of 192 for 7 and finished 15 not out.
The visitors made a steady start in reply before an outstanding spell of bowling by Ryan Johnston yielded a five-wicket haul as the home side moved into a strong position.
The St Boswells middle order managed to steady the ship with White and skipper Scott Marshall scoring 15 and 28 respectively. Wickets then fell to Pierce Solley (2), Stuart Hair and Paul Rayner, before Kyle Douglas rounded off an excellent performance by taking the final wicket to leave St Boswells 82 all out.
