Young Hawick boxers Connor Sutherland and Macauly Walker travel to Motherwell tomorrow (Saturday) to train in preparation for next month’s Scottish Junior Championships.
They have been selected to join other young hopefuls who’ll be put through their paces at Forgewood Boxing Club.
Commenting on the invitation, junior coach Gareth Walker said: “This is an excellent opportunity for Connor and Macauly to train with top level lads of their own age range with input from top trainers and coaches.
“They are both entered in the Scottish Junior Championships in March and if they are successful they will go on to box for Scotland which means they then qualify to box in the British Championships.”
The Hawick club has five boxers registered with Amateur Boxing Scotland, includeing 15-year-old Zack Clarkson and 27-year-old Yetholm farmer Tom Robson.
According to coach Walker, both are fantastic prospects. “Zack is a really good up-and-coming youngster,” he said. “He has loads of heart, guts and boxing ability, and although Tom Robson is a novice, he has won both his heavyweight bouts, he is a really tough guy and has a bright future.”
