Hawick Youth 17s were hoping to keep their unbeaten league run going at home to Kelso, and they got off to a great start when Robbie Kelly slipped the ball past the Tweedsiders’ keeper after receiving a superb Dale Whillans pass.
The young Teries went down to ten men after a player was red-carded, but five minutes later Euan Gray scored a great solo goal when beating two Kelso defenders before rounding their keeper to make it 2-0
Kelso responded with a counter of their own, but Hawick regained their two-goal advantage after a great passing move from a short corner ended with Chay Caldwell scoring from close range.
The hosts were playing some good football and soon hit the back of the net again through Gray who found the top corner with a great strike. Steven Drummond made it 5-1 when tapping in at the back post from a corner.
Kelso started the second half the better of the two sides and pulled a goal back to make it 5-2, but Hawick had the last word when Caldwell latchd on to a through-ball from Gray before poking the ball past the Tweedsiders’ keeper to make the final score 6-2.
