Silver lining for Jak as he secures Scots medal
Commonwealth game Delhi 2010. Silver Medal Winning Relay Team L to R David Carry, Robbie Renwick, Andrew Hunter and Jak Scott
HAWICK swimmer Jak Scott has capped a memorable Commonwealth Games performance with a silver medal.
The 19-year-old business studies student swam the third leg of the 4x200 metres freestyle relay final, which saw the Scots team finish in second place behind runaway winners Australia.
And he admitted the emotion of the whole occasion almost got the better of him as he joined his team-mates at the medal ceremony in Delhi.
He said: “It’s my first Commonwealth Games and to be here with the other three guys then up on the podium when it’s all over is what I’ve trained my whole life for.
“I was almost in tears. It’s an emotional experience.
“I just went for it. I went out there and had the belief that Scotland could do it.”
Scott, a former member of Hawick Amateur Swimming Club and Teviotdale Turbos ASC, lined up with team-mates Andy Hunter (1), David Carry (2) and Robbie Renwick (4) and managed to keep his team in contention with a strong third leg before handing over to individual 200m gold medallist Renwick.
Not only did the team leave training partners England in their wake but they managed to push great rivals South Africa into bronze in a time of 7 minutes 14.02 seconds.
n John Houston played his part as Scotland finished sixth in the Rugby Sevens in Delhi.
