Rugby trio shortlisted for top SRU club awards
THERE could be further celebrations down Mansfield Haugh way tonight as both coach Jammy McFarlane and player Rory Scott have been nominated for top SRU awards.
Scott, who returned from injury this season and switched from centre to wing forward, is up for the National One player-of-the-season accolade and McFarlane is in line for the coach of the year award.
The Club Awards ceremony is being held at a glittering bash tonight at Murrayfield.
McFarlane said anything won would be a reflection on the entire team’s performance throughout the campaign. He said: “I don’t do the job to get awards. Davie Grant (coach) does as much work as me. He’s involved in every step of the planning and delivery and we both sing off the same hymn sheet.”
While Rory added: “I feel this nomination is a reflection on the whole squad rather than just me.”
The Redskins clinched their second successive promotion by winning National One, losing just once in the league. They also made it to the semi-final of the National Shield.
n Hawick Linden’s Moira Black is also among the contenders for volunteer of the year.
