Pub hits goal trail

JOCK Reid’s took on The Canon, from Jedburgh, in a friendly match on Sunday and ran out comfortable 7-3 winners.

The Drumlanrig Square outfit’s goals came from Keith Davies, Lindsey Gibson, Andrew McLean, Lee Armstrong, Neil McColm, Mark Deans and Greg Cottrell. Man-of-the-match was Euan Whillans.

They are following the match up with a game against The Station Bar in two weeks time, with the matches in memory of jockey Campbell Gillies, who died last year.

And it is hoped a summer tournament can be launched in the name of the former jockey involving sides from pubs and clubs in the town, with a trophy donated by Jock Reid’s.

Anyone interested in entering a team should contact Stuart Sharkey on 07917 799029.

A seven-a-side tournament could also be held later in the year on the all-weather pitches.
