No incentive needed as PSA look to end Wanderers’ unbeaten run

HAWICK PSA will be going out all guns blazing at Mansfield Park tonight as they try to end the Wanderers’ impressive unbeaten run.

But forwards coach Ewan Simpson insists any added incentive isn’t necessary when it comes to the two local sides locking horns.

The Wands, who are undefeated in the league in over a year, are coming off the back of a 56-0 demolition job over Duns and will be favourites to secure the double over their Burnfoot rivals, having won the previous encounter earlier in the season.

But Simpson told the Hawick News: “At the end of the day it can sometimes be easier to get to the top than to stay there. They are the top team in the league and everyone is out to beat them. It’s up to us to try to knock them off.

“But I don’t think it would matter where they were in the league or where we were, the boys will be up for this game regardless.”

PSA themselves secured a much-needed win over Kelso Harlequins last weekend.

And Simpson, who has been in charge of a strong forwards pack since the start of the current campaign, is hoping they can cause the Wands some problems, while stand-off Kirk Ford can continue his good form in the backs.

He said: “I thought the first game was a tremendous advert for rugby and what the two teams in the town have to offer.

“Not a lot has changed since then. Our key strength is our forward pack, with the experience, size and power.

“We’ve had a couple of poor outings but we’ve got to get the wheels back on and the boys will be ready.

“It’s one of those games that you don’t have to thrown much fuel on the fire to get them going.”

The match kicks off at 7pm.
