Halfpenny's desperate for a change in fortune

JUST when you thought things couldn't get any worse at Albert Park - they do!

The Royalists failed to record a single win throughout the whole of last season and they have been dogged by the drama of irregular betting surrounding their Scottish Cup tie against Huntly - something which shows no sign of going away.

And last weekend they plumbed to new depths as they crashed 10-2 to Stirling University.

But tomorrow they get the opportunity to perhaps ease their pain by travelling to face fellow strugglers Peebles, who were thrashed 10-0 by Gala Fairydean in their last outing.

Glancing ahead to the match, Albert manager Davie Halfpenny told the Hawick News: "We're bottom of the league and Peebles are above us.

"They beat us at Hawick a few weeks back, but unfortunately we had Jody Easdon sent off in the first half that day and we'd been holding our own up until then.

"Our confidence is a bit low at the moment and this needs to be worked on. We're in much need of a win and let's hope it's sooner rather than later."

Top game in the local amateur scene is the meeting of old rivals Hawick United and Hawick Legion in the third round of the Border Cup at Wilton Lodge Park.

Talking of this intriguing looking clash, United boss George Shepherd said: "I was disappointed with the result against Chirnside last Saturday. There are no signs of panic though because although we lost, it was against a good team.

"We're looking forward to playing the Legion as you can't beat a derby match.

"I'm sure it'll be a close game and it'll be about who takes their chances on the day."

Commenting on the cup tie, Legion captain Neal McConnell said: "Both teams are coming off heavy defeats against Chirnside and they have something to prove to themselves.

"We've not met United for a while as we've been in different leagues. The last time we played them was in a cup tie though and United beat us on penalties.

"United were in a division below at the time, but it shows what can happen in a derby match. And anything could happen."
