Greens have score to settle ahead of must-win Selkirk match

GREENS captain Greg Cottrell admits they have a point to prove in their make-or-break clash at Philiphaugh tomorrow.
Selkirk are one of only two teams to have defeated Hawick so far this season.
But it was the manner of that defeat at Mansfield Park that still rankles with Cottrell and his teammates as they let slip a 33-5 half-time lead against the Souters.
He told the Hawick News: “We’re still hurting from that game at the start of the season as we lost a big lead and it was a win we threw away.”
And it is something they are looking to put right.
“In the past few weeks we’ve been gaining momentum and we’ve not been beaten for six games.
“There’s a score to settle here, though, and we’re all looking forward to it.”
Selkirk sit one place behind Hawick in the table although they have a game in hand.
And with Watsonians and Glasgow Hawks stretching their lead at the top of the table, tomorrow’s match is one neither can afford to lose.
“It’s going to be a great Borders derby and everyone will be getting stuck in,” said Cottrell.
“We know it’s a big game but pressure can work two ways and I think we’ve seen in the last few matches that the boys are rising to it.
“We pretty much need to win every game now and with our attacking rugby we’re not struggling to score. We just need to cut out the soft tries at the other end.”
