TOP TEN: The successful Drumlanrig 'A team which won the tens tournament.THE first primary school 'new image ten-a-side tournament, organised by Linden and Trades, was held at Volunteer Park on Saturday morning.

Ten teams from each school took part, and were split into two groups of five with each team playing four games.

After some hard, exciting games Drumlanrig 'A and Burnfoot 'A qualified from group one, and Wilton 'A and Trinity 'A were successful in group two.

The first semi-final between Drumlanrig and Trinity was a fast game with, with the former going through to the final by three tries to nil.

In the other semi between Burnfoot and Wilton it took a try in extra-time by Wilton s Craig Waldie to clinch the other final spot.

There was some excellent rugby played in the final with both teams moving the ball at every opportunity, and at the final whistle the score were tied at one try each.

Extra-time was then played, but after three five-minute sessions the scores were still tied. To try to break the deadlock the teams were reduced to seven players. Still no team could score the winner, so the teams were reduced first to five and then to three players.

A further 20 minutes was played before Drumlanrig s Glen Desport scored a great try in the corner.

Both teams should be congratulated on the hard-fought final during which all boys and girls showed some fine skills.

Both Linden and Trades clubs would like to thank all the boys and girls who played, along with the parents who turned up to support their kids.

Also thanks to Safeway, Somerfield and Melgund Bar for supplying refreshments. And last but not least, thaks to referees Rob Black, Kevin Brown and Richard Allott.
