Douglas and Graham attend Scots U18 camp
Promising rugby talents Matty Douglas and Ross Graham have been selected to participate in a two-day Scotland under-18 training camp in Edinburgh yesterday and today.
Douglas, who signed for Newcastle Falcons in the summer but has returned to feature for the Hawick YM and Wanderers on an intermittent basis this term, kicked five points for the Borders under-18 team that faced an Edinburgh side in front of Scotland selectors earlier this month.
“The squad has been picked now, but there’s another game and trial in February to form a 26-man squad for two internationals against England and Ireland in March,” explained Douglas. “Those matches are a warm-up for the FIRA-AER under-18 Championships in Grenoble at the end of March.”
Graham captained the South Schools side this season and skippered the Borders in the trial match. He has recently turned out for both the PSA and the YM, but international recognition marks a high point in 2012 for the high school pupil.
“I was just checking my emails and I saw the one from the SRU,” he said. “I was overwhelmed. I couldn’t believe it and I was really happy that I’d shown enough at the trial game.”
