Cannon fires to double gold at Pitreavie

TERI track veteran Francis Cannon claimed two gold medals at the Scottish Masters Championship at Pitreavie.

Cannon, 64, clocked his quickest 400m time in three years to win his first gold, and took his second with a top finish in the 800m.

The Burnfoot athlete enjoyed success as a junior competitor and was senior winner at the Borders Championships earlier in his career. He has carried such success into the veteran category and has travelled the world to enter events.

“Normally, I come back with one gold, but to get two was fantastic,” he said of his latest triumph.

“I should be old and past it now, but I keep kidding myself on. I keep myself fit and I’m now free from injury.”

Cannon came in at 70.22secs in his 400m race and stopped the watch at 2:44 in the 800m event.
