The Wilton Lodge Park outfit claimed the Beveridge Cup earlier in the campaign, but their league form sees them smack in the middle of a relegation battle.
Sharkey said: “I think it goes without saying at this point that I would gladly exchange our cup final victory with safety this season.”
Legion, who dropped from the ‘A’ Division last season, have never before been relegated to the bottom tier of the local amateur leagues. While with Winton pulling out of the division last month the issue over how many teams going down, one or two, remains undecided.
Sharkey believes four or five victories from their remaining eight fixtures would be enough to secure their ‘B’ Division status. And that starts today against fellow strugglers CFC Bowholm.
He said: “I have emphasised to the players several times how important the remaining eight games are, starting on Saturday.
Bowholm have had a difficult season but if we go into the match thinking it’s already won we could be in line for a shock.”
