THE last time Hawick played Gala the Maroons ran out 14-0 winners at Mansfield Park; at the league split ten positions separated the sides; a difference of nine wins and 36 points – but Greens coach Phil Leck revealed this week he can’t wait to visit Netherdale tomorrow.
Unbelievable underdogs they may be, but Leck is looking forward to his first Hawick-Gala encounter with confidence.
He said: “It’s going to be big but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s another part of the stepping stone. We’ve played two games against opposition you would consider to be a little less than us, but now we’re up against a team a lot better than ourselves and that’s a greater challenge.”
Hawick bounced back from a shock defeat at Kelso with a vastly improved performance against Peebles to give Leck his first win in charge and put them into second spot in the RBS Border Regional Cup table, behind tomorrow’s hosts.
He added: “We need to up the physical element and pace to compete at that level. If we can do that and keep our concentration levels high then we should do well.”
