HAWICK MSP John Lamont showed he was more than just a good sport this week as he completed in the town’s triathlon event.
And the Conservative politician finished the gruelling course in one hour 16 minutes, securing 22nd place.
He said: “It was fun. There was a good mix of people and a great atmosphere.”
While good weather welcomed the athletes at the start of the race, the rain arrived as they made their way around the cycling course at Minto.
The event saw competitors swim 30 lengths (750m) in the swimming pool before heading out on the bike around a 20km course that took in Denholm, Minto and Appletreehall.
And the last leg involved an energy-sapping five kilometre run.
John said: “The first mile on the bike was the toughest but then I got into a ryhthm and it was fine.
“I’ve been doing the spinning classes at Think Fitness and that has been a tremendous workout.”
The triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the United Kingdom and this is the third event Mr Lamont has taken part in, having previously raced at Galashiels and Peebles.
Organised by the Borders Sport and Leisure Trust the series continues with further events planned for Kelso and Eyemouth.
The Borders Tri Club had eight competitors taking part and came away with two trophies.
Jane Holmes once again excelled when taking first female vet and second overall female, while Katrona Methven gained first female super vet.
