KARATE KIDS MAKE THE GRADE AT WADO-RYU CLUB

Hawick Wado-Ryu Junior Karate Club recently hosted former European champion Douglas Fowler (6th Dan black belt), who conducted a training session and belt advancement grading.

The following children were awarded junior belt promotions: Yellow – Hamish McVie, Liam Jaffray, Stevie Nichol, Robbie Jack, Sam White, Georgia Wood and Alexander Blakily. Orange – Preston Owens, Eli Hamilton, Craig Oliver, Jack Howden, Andrea Brennan, Owen Gray, Charlie Rae, James Berry and Toby Gracie. Green – Ellen Dobie, Hanna Greig and Dawid Krysa. Blue – Christy-Jean Lynn, Megan Povey, Calum Davidson, Samuel Hadwin and Robbie Renwick. Purple – Dylan Ellins and Luke Stirrat. Brown – Lucy Houston and Ronan Hill. Brown (yellow tags) – Rachael McDonald, Matthew McDonald, Harry Neill and Evan Winters-Halstead. Brown (orange tags) – Ben Howe and Sarah Davenport. Brown (green tags) – Jennifer Sibbald, Jessica McCreadie and Chloe Scott. Brown (blue tags) – Chloe Owens. Brown and white – Dylan Greig. A special mention must go to 15-year-old Shannon Atkinson who recently passed her junior black belt, and is now in training to attempt the senior 1st Dan black belt grading in December, when she will be up against adult women. The club, which is coached by Malcolm Elliot (3rd Dan) and Keith Elliot (2nd Dan), will be starting beginners’ classes after the school summer holidays. Telephone 07887 522873 for more details.
