HASC make mighty splash at Eyemouth

Hawick ASC were among the medals at the recently-held Eyemouth Mighty Marlins competition.

The first event was the 100m backstroke, in which Lyall Hodgins, competing in the boys’ nine-and-under age group, secured the gold medal in an excellent personal best time. In the girls’ nine-and-under category, Amy McMichan also bettered her personal best on her way to a bronze. Abbie Jeffrey (girls’ 10-11 years) swam an excellent personal best, while in the final backstroke race, Kirsten Mitchell swam close to her personal best to scoop bronze.

The next event was the 100m individual medley and Lyall delivered yet another personal best and the gold in the nine-and-under category. In the girls’ 10-11 years race, Abbie swam well and was close to her best. Lauren Grant made her mark with a personal best and sixth-spot finish in the girls’ 12-13 years race, while Kirsten was next up and again swam close to her best time and gained another bronze.

The final event was the 100m freestyle, in which Lyall notched another personal best and added a silver to his collection. In the girls’ 10-11 years, Abbie finished sixth in a new best time, while in the girls’ 12-13 years, Lauren swam very close to her best to cap a successful day at Eyemouth.
