French and Shane at the double

Have your say

The latest stocking at Acreknowe around two weeks ago has really stirred things up, and both French Wight and Shane Kelly have recorded double-figure catches recently, writes fishing correspondent Drew Dickson.

French landed his mostly on sedges, while daddies were working well for Shane. Other dries taking fish have been cdc variants.

The trout are in great condition at the moment and are putting up a great fight.

Williestruther has also been fishing well lately with fish reported at well over 3lbs, which have mostly been caught on the worm.

Some good sport has also been reported on Barnes Loch, again with dries working well.

After a visit from the Trout Fisherman magazine last year, a feature on Barnes Loch is scheduled to appear in the next issue of the magazine which will be in the shops in the near future. Jeff Prest, the features editor, was completely amazed at the scenery surrounding the loch.

A number of sea trout have been reported in the river but they do not seem interested in anything presented to them.

Robbie Wallace and I had some great sport on the river one night recently, catching a number of small trout, the biggest being around eight inches. It actually brought back a lot of memories as this was how I started my fly-fishing many years ago.

Joe (Sniper) Wallace was part of a group who were sea fishing off Holy Island recently when they caught a lot of mackerel and cod.

I would like to hear about anyone fishing further afield for any species during the holiday period.
