Hawick High’s annual staff v students football match threw up a real corker this year, and saw the lead change hands twice before affairs were settled by a last-gasp winner.
The students were quickest out of the traps and enjoyed a lengthy spell of domination. Only some determined defending from the staff, led at the back by Mr Fleming and Mr Scott, kept the youngsters at bay. Midway through the first half, on a rare foray upfield, the staff scored against the run of play through a swerving shot from distance from Mr Lindores.
The students hit back immediately, Ali Tripovic squeezing the ball in from close range, before Dale Whillans fired home with the last kick before the break.
The staff came roaring back in the second period, and Mr Kellagher was on target from an acute angle to square things up with 15 minutes remaining.
A dramatic finish, in which both sides threw everything they had at each other, then saw Mr Scott firing home with just over a minute to go to secure bragging rights for the staff with a 3-2 victory.
