Rovers started brightly and Michael Moir and Sean Clark had opportunities to score in the opening quarter-of-an-hour of this Border Amateur ‘C’ Division game.
Tweedmouth gradually began to get a foothold in the game and sailed ahead through a well-struck 20 yard drive. The home side slotted away a second shortly afterwards and, in turn, added to their tally by scoring twice more before the interval.
At the beginning of the second half, Rovers came more into things through some improved play .
Tweedmouth, however, grabbed a fifth against the run of play and then followed this up with two more strikes.
Rovers had the last say, though, when Chris Dunne reduced the leeway in the closing stages.
Reflecting on his side’s showing, Rovers manager Darren McElrath commented: “Considering how well we had played in our pre-season friendlies, I was very disappointed with our performance. We were just not good enough, it was as simple as that.”
