GALA have lost all but one of their games this season – their sole victory coming against Rovers in an astonishing 5-0 home win earlier in the season. But, despite taking the lead, they were blown away by the Teries this time round.

Rovers player-boss Luke Cooper said afterwards: “I told the boys it’s a derby and to not take the team lightly. We took them lightly in the last game and got spanked. But, we gave them no respect in this game and deserved the win.”

For a while, it appeared that Athletic may have been set to ‘do the double’ against their Teri rivals after taking a 1-0 lead into half-time courtesy of Mike McCauley’s strike.

But, after the break, Andrew Tinlin set up Liam Lawrence for Rovers to equalise.

The visitors then went ahead when Cooper’s cross deflected off the head of a Gala defender and into the net.

Rovers’ push for victory suffered a setback when Jordan Caldwell was sent off for dissent.

However, as Gala pushed for a leveller, Jordan’s younger brother Chay pulled the hosts further clear with a shot on the turn. Boss Cooper said: “We needed a win for a confidence-booster and morale.”
