St Boswells 2

Fielding a changed line-up in this Border Amateur ‘C’ Division match, Rovers made the early running but it was St Boswells who opened the scoring with a goal against the run of play.

Rovers took this in their stride, however, and within five minutes drew level. After being fed by a Sean Clarke pass, Cesar Bento rode a challenge before rifling a shot into the net.

Bento, in turn, notched a second when beating the visitors’ keeper with a well-struck drive from the edge of the box.

Towards the break, Rovers stretched their lead. Chay Caldwell took on a defender before whipping over a cross which Clarke headed home at the back post.

In the second period, Michael Moir put St Boswells into further arrears in putting away a Colin Turnbull lay-off from a Jory Robertson cross.

St Boswells then had a great chance to reduce the leeway in being awarded a penalty after Jordan Caldwell had brought down an attacker.

There was to be no joy for the villagers, though, as the spot kick was brilliantly saved by Legion keeper Kevan Miller.

In the closing stages, however, St Boswells did pull a goal back.

Rovers manager Daren McElrath said of the game: “We should perhaps have done better but a win is a win so I’m not complaining”.
