Having been pipped by Wilton Primary School in last month’s Slorance Cup Final, Lilliesleaf school turned the tables on their bigger Hawick neighbours by securing the primary schools football league crown for the first time.

Going into the last few weeks of the season it was clear that the title would be heading to either Lilliesleaf or Wilton and that the two games between the schools would be pivotal.

And so it proved, with the first match at Lilliesleaf resulting in the home team deservedly winning a tight game by 3-2. A week later, an exciting clash in Hawick finished 3-3, giving the young villagers the advantage.

Despite dropping points when they drew with Stirches, Lilliesleaf then went on to secure the title by a point when they sneaked a 2-1 win against Trinity in a nervy game a week before the end of term.

Wilton duly finished second with Drumlanrig third.
