Hawick Royal Albert kick off the new season tomorrow (Saturday) with an East of Scotland League Cup clash against Heriot-Watt University at Albert Park, writes John Slorance.
Giving his thoughts on the forthcoming campaign, Albert assistant manager John Fettes said: “The friendly matches have gone quite well for us, and manager Graeme Chadwick and I are pleased with what we have seen.
“We have been talking to a a lot of players during the close season and have some new signings. Alan Mckenzie has also come on board as a coach. He has a great knowledge of the game and will be an asset to the club.”
Fettes continued: “We have been drawn in a very tough section of the League Cup, and on Saturday we have got Heriot-Watt University, who will be wanting to prove themselves after being relegated from the Premier Division last season.”
Royalists are back in action with a midweek match at Lothian Thistle/Hutchison Vale, who are one of the top Premier League sides, and then travel to Easthouses Lily next Saturday (August 10).
Fettes added: “Easthouses were a very good side last season and got promoted from the First Division. Our opening three matches will all be hard but I’m cautously optimistic that we can do well.
Tomorrow’s match against the students kicks off at 2.30pm.
