Waverley made an exit from the Border Cup in this quarter-final tie.

Facing a Stow side that they had beaten on league business the week previous, Waverley gave as good as they got throughout the match. Victory, however, was to elude the Wilton Lodge Park outfit.

An evenly-fought first half failed to produce a goal. With 15 minutes of the second period gone, however, a goal arrived. And it was a goal worth waiting for as it was a real stunner.

Jamie Runciman emerged the scorer with a glorious
shot.

Waverley battled hard for an equaliser, and Jordan Yardley almost obliged with a thundering drive that forced the Stow keeper into pulling off a splendid save.

Commenting on the match, Waverley coach Grant Ferguson stated: “It was a close game and the result could have gone either way. We created chances but didn’t put them away. There was plenty of effort shown in the team and we’ll just have to pick ourselves up for the next game.

“It’s always disappointing to lose, but the goal the Stow boy scored was real quality.”
