Hawick United FC have scored a financial goal with a £2,000 grant from the Awards For All/Big Lottery Fund, writes John Sorance.
The Border Amateur ‘B’ Division outfit will use the money for improved floodlights at training, lights for the club container at Wilton Lodge Park, and training equipment.
Committee man Dougie Leithead said: “The club is indebted to Brian Renwick Ltd, as one of the main reasons for our grant success has been through Brian’s expertise and understanding of the process.”
Leithead added: “It costs a lot of money to run an amateur side like United. For instance, it costs us over £100 to play a home game. We have to pay for a pitch, hire changing facilities and pay the referee. It might sound ridiculous but it is now cheaper to play an away game.”
Meanwhile, United are planning to run a five-a-side tournament and family day in June. Plans are at an early stage but a lot of interest is being shown already, said Leithead.
