A goal in the closing stages of the game sent Legion spinning out of the Border Cup.

Legion began in a promising manner, and with Ewan Gray, Liam Lavery and Scott Duncan prominent, grabbed the first counter of the match.

On connecting with an Aiden Reilly free-kick, Sean Solley powered in a header which was turned into the net by a Gordon man who was attempting to clear.

Legion continued to look the part and Lavery drilled in a second when beating the home keeper with a left-footed shot.

After having a man red-carded for speaking out of turn, Gordon opened their account before the break.

In the second period, Gordon began to make their presence felt a lot more and went on to snatch an equaliser through former Scottish rugby internationalist Kevin Utterson.

Minutes from time, the home outfit grabbed a dramatic winner with a header.

Legion assistant manager Tony Craggs said of the match: “We played well in the first half when playing into the wind. In the second half we didn’t use the wind to our advantage. In fact, we didn’t really turn up in the second half.

“It was a disappointing result for us. But we have no complaints as we just didn’t do a job.”
