The senior boys overwhelmed Langholm Academy in this pre-Scottish Cup warm-up match – and scarcely two minutes were on the clock when Chay Caldwell opened the scoring for the home side, before a Euan Gray double had Hawick cruising with less than ten minutes played.

Dale Whillans, instrumental in midfield, pulled the strings to set Robbie Kelly free for a double of his own, before Caldwell got back in on the act to make it six.

Thomas McAulay got forward from midfield to finish from an acute angle, and Steven Drummond came up from the back to nod home from a vicious corner.

A substitution late in the first half saw the introduction of Louis Johnstone, who made an immediate impact, beating the goalkeeper with an amazing lob with his first touch.

Langholm pulled one back early in the second half, but normal service was resumed shortly afterwards as Johnstone notched a second with a neat finish. Caldwell completed his hat-trick with time to spare, and Johnstone did the same midway through the half after strong running from Dalton Redpath.

A slew of substitutions took the sting out of the game and allowed Langholm to grab three consolation goals, but with the result already in the bag there could be no faulting Hawick for taking their foot off the accelerator.
