Denholm secured their first Hawick Primary Schools’ Football League title after beating rivals Drumlanrig in a thrilling final game at Denholm last week.
Both teams were were unbeaten, but it was Drumlanrig, who needed only a draw to clinch their fourth championship in seven years, who started by far the best with goals from Rachel Shiel and Charlie Hope in the first ten minutes. However, a deflected effort from Evan Alexander five minutes before half-time gave Denholm renewed belief.
The game was then turned on its head in the first ten minutes of the second period, during which Denholm had the visitors pinned back and goals from James Delaney and Corrie Patterson (2) saw the young villagers storm into a four-two lead.
Drumlanrig pushed hard in the final ten minutes, but were unable to score again, with Denholm keeper Ross Nichol in top form.
