BORDER AMATEUR ‘C’ DIVISION

Tweedmouth Amateurs 5

Hawick Legion Rovers 1

AN UNDERSTRENGTH Legion Rovers’ trip over the border ended in defeat.

There was no air of despondency in the Hawick camp, though, and Rovers manager Darren McElreathsaid of matters: “Due to a few players being called up to the first team we had to field a weakened side. Outfield player Graeme Marshall had to play in goal and I was on the bench, so that tells you something.

“Graeme ended up having a great game and kept the score down with some brilliant saves. Tweedmouth had a lot of possession, but we stuck in and made it hard for them.

“I couldn’t fault any of the boys for lack of effort. A lot of them don’t have much experience but they all gave their best.”

Tweedmouth netted thrice in the first half, and a further two goals in the second period.

Rovers reduced the leeway in the closing stages when John Shankie found the net in chipping a shot over the Tweeddale keeper.
