First jack bowled as Hawick club hosts picnic

BORDER UNDER-25s: The Hawick and Buccleuch clubs will host Sunday’s four-team six-rink competition, in which Midlothian, Fife, West Lothian and the Borders will lock horns. Play gets under way at 11am and spectators are welcome.

HAWICK: Saturday’s opening picnic was held in sweltering conditions, and saw president Jim Reilly welcome 32 playing members for the annual President v Vice-Presidents match. Bill Anderson, the recently-retired traffic warden, led the vice-presidents. The game comprised13 ends and resulted in a narrow victory
for the president by 48 shots to 46.

Details: J. H. Reilly 9 W. Anderson 11; B. Irvine 9 A. Clarkson 7; M. Christy 11 L. Clarkson 15; A. Oliver 19 M. Hogg 13.

The players then enjoyed a superb meal from Margaret Todd, the club secretary and president’s partner.

Members would like to wish Micky Hogg a speedy recovery following his hip operation this week.

WILTON: Saturday night’s rinks competition attracted a good entry and was won by George Patterson, Lesley Pringle and Kenny McCartney (skip), three wins, +4 shots; 2, June Robertson, Kieran Pringle, Michael Smyth and Gordon McPherson (skip), two wins, one draw.

Members are reminded that annual subs and competition entries are due by Wednesday.

A club rinks comp will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 6 pm, and names should be on the sheet by tonight (Friday).
