CAGE fighting is being brought to the town hall next year.
The Battle in the Borders event will see the very best local fighters from the town’s Twindragons MMA Academy up against a host of opponents from across the country.
That includes top British professional fighter Andy Plimmer, who will fight for a British title at the show.
The local contingent features Muay Thai fighters Liam Hush and Gatis Viskers, Ryan Craik and semi-pro Hawick fighter Craig Johnston, who will be fighting alongside great prospect and debut fighter Andrew McAuley
A full 23-foot cage will take centre stage for an exciting evening of cage boxing, K1 rule style kickboxing and mixed martial arts.
Organiser Darren Johnstone, who will be taking part in a charity K1 bout on the night, told the Hawick News this week: “I feel that the Borders is ideal as nothing like this has been done before while there are shows in other parts of the country every weekend.”
Run in conjunction with gyms from the north of England and southern Scotland, there will be security advisors on site alongside a ring doctor, professional referees and judges.
Johnstone revealed he will be donating his purse to the Help for Heroes charity, while there will also be a collection on the night to raise money for the deserving cause.
He added: “It’s sure to be an explosive night of action featuring fighters from all over the Borders, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Liverpool and Manchester.”
The Twindragons MMA Academy in Hawick has been running for 18 months with fighters training twice a week at the high school and O’Connell Street gym Think Fitness.
Johnstone said: “It’s the world’s fastest growing sport and it’s proving popular in the town with fighters. I’m hoping it will be just as popular with the public.”
There will be a fully licensed bar and tickets, priced £25 per person or £30 for VIP tickets, includes table service and a premium view.
Tickets are available from headzup hairdressers in Hawick on 372201, or from Darren on 07584043412 or through any of the local fighters or email@example.com
