EMMA Suddon was one of five Hawick swimmers who acquitted themselves well at last month’s Scottish schools finals in Tollcross, Glasgow.

It was the first time the Drumlanrig school pupil had competed in a 50m pool and at such a big event, but she overcame any nerves and had a fantastic swim in the 50m butterfly. The quartet of Scott and Jessica Wilcox and Katie and Kristie Waugh were flying the flag for the high school.

Scott and Kristie both competed in the 100m and 200m breaststroke for their age groups and both put in some impressive swims, with Scott just narrowly losing out on a bronze in the 100m.

Jessica Wilcox took fourth spot in the 100m and 200m freestyle, and just missed the bronze medal in the former by one-hundredth-of-a-second. Katie Waugh put in a fine performance in the 200m individual medley to finish in seventh position.

All five swimmers are also members of Teviotdale ASC.
