Gareth Renwick has been awarded the 2011 player of the year title at Hawick Golf Club.
Gareth, who is a double Border champion, received the award for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the club throughout the year.
This year he has won on both the men’s and junior circuit at the club as well as throughout the Borders and his success earned him a place against the top players in tournaments across Scotland.
The pinnacle of his year came when Gareth (pictured) won back to back titles at the Border boys’ under-18 strokeplay and matchplay, and then went on to represent the Borders over The Duke’s Course at St Andrews in the Scottish Champions of Champions.
He has halved his handicap from 10 to five over the last 12 months and in January he will take the top spot as Hawick’s junior number one.
High school pupil Gareth said: “My constant appearance on the golf course and practise was key to my success this year.”
He was presented with the prize by junior convenor Graeme Tinlin at the club’s annual presentation night last Saturday. Tinlin said: “Gareth has shown this year how extremely talented a golfer he is and his dedication to the game has paid off.”
Club captain Roddy McIntyre added: “Hawick Golf Club wishes to congratulate Gareth on his success this year. He is very deserving of the player of the year award.”
