MINTO golfer Lesley Atkins, pictured, will win her first Scottish cap next month after being selected for the national under-18 team to play at the Home Internationals at Carnoustie.

At the age of just 13, it's an astonishing achievement and one that is expected to catapult her into the limelight alongside the likes of 15-year-old prodigy Carly Booth, who was recently tipped to become one of the highest-earning stars in sport.

But, commented proud coach Frank Scott, there's nothing to stop Lesley – who recently won the Scottish girls' under-14 stroke play championship – going one better.

"Being selected for the under-18s is an amazing achievement for someone of her age," he said.

"There's no question Lesley can go all the way – she's the most talented player I've seen.

"The important thing will be for her to keep her feet on the ground but she's got an old head for her age and she's very competitive, so there's no doubt she'll do well."
