BORDER LADIES

THE Border Ladies held the semi-finals and finals of their championships at Gala Bowling Club on Sunday and, after some excellent bowling, Borders president Betty Brown invited Scottish Secretary Anna Marshall to present the trophies.

Results: Sin
gles – 1, Pauline Anderson (Gala); 2, Maureen Winning (Kelso). Pairs – 1, Zenda Borthwick and Alison Clarkson (Hawick), 2, Marion Pearson and Caroline Hogarth (Buccleuch). Triples – 1, Karen Thomson, Helene Thomson and Moira Bell (Kelso); 2, Elma Young, Matty Smith and Hazel Scott (Selkirk). Fours – 1, Carol McVie, Agnes Mitchell, Betty Currie and Pat Houston (Ettrick Forest); 2, Pat Lees, Nancy Jerdan, Phylis Beattie and Maureen Hogarth (Kelso). Senior fours – 1, Rena Dodds, Gwen Stein, Myra Anderson and Janette Shiell (St Ronan's); 2, Alice Telford, Helen Connell, May Middlemiss and Joyce Thomson (Lauder).

Munro Auto Electric Division Three – Waverley 'B' 76 Peebles 88, Abbotsford 'B' 86 Ettrick Forest 69, St Ronans 91 Gala 'B' 57, Hawick 'B' 79 Stow 84.

BUCCLEUCH

THE senior men recorded a 10-shot win over Peebles in their recent league match. The winning triple comprised W. Irvine, E. Barker and W. Thomson (skip). Details: T. Edmison 10 D. Moyes 17, O. Barker 17 B. Uvarner 13, W. Thomson 18 T. Vannan 9, K. Graham 19 T. Ramsey 15. Buccleuch 64 Peebles 54.

The ladies were away to local rivals Hawick, with the rink of M. Pearson, S. Moore, A. Miles and C. Stitt (skip) enjoying a close game against A. Clarkson's rink before emerging the winners by three shots. Details: M. Martin 10 J. Dickey 23, C. Stitt 15 A. Clarkson 12. Buccleuch 2 Hawick 3.

HAWICK

The ladies welcomed neighbours Buccleuch last Tuesday night when they secured a 3-2 win. Top rink for the home side was Z. Borthwick, C. Foster, B. Irvine, J. Dickey (skip). Details A. Clarkson 12 C. Stitt 15, J. Dickey 23 M. Martin 10.

Last Monday night the gents travelled to Gala where they were looking to make it four wins in a row. However, it wasn't to be as the hosts played the tricky conditions better and ran out the victors by 15 shots. Top rink for Hawick comprised A. Oliver, A. Hogg, L. Clarkson and G. Scott (skip). Details: G. Scott 16 J. Craig 8, G. Lyall 14 R. Young 27, N. Amos 19 S. Bell 15, M. Christy 18 M. Thin 21, K. Johnstone 8 D. Pearce 19. Hawick 75 Gala 90.

Last Wednesday night's league match saw Hawick 'B' slipping to a five-shot defeat at the hands of Stow, who secured their win after 17 ends. Top rink for Hawick was that of W. Short, K. Oliver, R. Johnstone and C. Blaikie (skip). Details: R. Lyall 12 M. Thomas 21, M. Hogg 11 I. Swan 17, A. Wilson 15 C. Tait 26, C. Blaikie 20 P. Wesson 7, A. Renwick 21 E. Harton 13. Hawick 'B' 79 Stow 84.

The club's pro-am was held on Saturday and after some great bowls, some not-so-great bowls and a few unsual bowls, the rink of I. Ford, H. Howden, R. Duff and F. Spalding (skip), took the spoils with an 8-5 victory over M. Bell, S. (Baby) Ballantyne, D. Oliver and B. McDonald (skip), in the final. The club would like to thank James Swinton & Co and former member George Broomfield for their support.

On Sunday, 22 players took part in the Wallace Express Open Singles, which saw Langholm Old's Paul Warwick defeating Buccleuch's Colin Spalding in the final.
