Veteran Hawick runner John Paxton, who gave an excellent account of himself in reaching the final of the 110m handicap at Jedburgh Border Games on Saturday, is poised to get down on his marks again this weekend.
This time around Paxton is battling for honours in the 110m handicap at St Ronan's Games. And going by his Jedburgh showing, Paxton, from the
Billy Edgar school, should show up well again.
A two-time winner of the Morebattle Games sprint, as well as a former victor of the Peebles Beltane Sports 110m handicap, Paxton runs from a mark of 13.5m.
After having gained second place in the final of the veterans' 90m handicap at Jedburgh, Paxton's training companion David Grieve (12m) could also be well to the fore.
Fresh from his triumph in the invitation sprint at Alva Games, Hawick's Lee Notman is on a handicap of 5m.
Other Hawick peds set to appear in the Victoria Park sprint are Iskan Barskanmay (7.5m), David Lauder (9m), Glyn Davies (7m), Ryan Trimby (11m), Ross Weir (18.5m), David Hush (19m) and Aidan Patterson (8.5m).
Hawick-trained Colin Bruce, of Selkirk, a fine winner of the Jedburgh 110m handicap, has been placed on a mark of 11m.
All the aforementioned Teri runners are also entered for the 200m handicap.
In the 800m handicap, Stewart Fraser (35m), Reece Taylor (50m), Michael Young (75m) and Kenny Short (90m) all go for Hawick. Running from scratch, Colin Welsh, of Kelso, is back-marker.
Hawick's Stewart Fraser (40m) is the back man in the 1,600m handicap.
Hawick youngsters in action in the 10-heat youths' 90m handicap are: J. Hodgins (24m), J. Parker (8.5m), B. Douglas (23.5m), L. Mallin (6.5m), R. Sutherland (5m), N. Swanston (4.5m), G. Paxton (19.5m), K. Potts (24.5m) and J. Wilson (24.5m).
This event has brought about some thrilling racing throughout the season so far and tomorrow looks like being no exception.
Teri youngsters in the youths' 200m handicap are: N. Swanson (10m), B. Douglas (51m), J. Hodgins (52m), J. Parker (17m), G. Paxton (40m), L. Mallin (14m), K. Potts (53m), J. Wilson (53m) and R. Sutherland (12m).
L. Corbett (340m) and J. Noble (165m) represent Hawick in the youths' 1,600m handicap.
